Electrical Stimulation
Electrical stimulation uses controlled electrical impulses delivered through pads placed on the skin. Health First may recommend it as a supportive treatment when it is appropriate for your symptoms and health history.

Different electrical stimulation devices serve different purposes. Your provider should explain which type is being considered, the goal of treatment, and what you may feel during the session. It is one possible part of care, rather than a diagnosis or a solution for every painful condition.

Tell your provider how the stimulation feels. Report pain, burning, irritation, or unexpected sensations right away.
Discuss any changes in symptoms and whether this approach is helping with the goals of your care.
Electrical stimulation is not appropriate for everyone. Certain implanted electronic devices and other health conditions can make particular forms of stimulation unsuitable. Screening and device-specific guidance matter.
For TENS specifically, any pain relief is generally temporary and effectiveness varies. Ask your provider which modality is being used rather than assuming all electrical stimulation works the same way.
Explore our passive therapy options and services. Your plan should reflect the evaluation, not simply the availability of a device.
The sensation depends on the device and settings. Tell the provider if it is uncomfortable; treatment should not continue through unexplained pain or burning.
